Mazda Kodo Design Innovation
What Is Mazda Kodo Design Innovation and What Makes It Special?
There is something special and unique about Mazda's design. The cars have an energy about them, even at a standstill. The words KODO design is frequently used when discussing new Mazda vehicles' styling features, but what does it mean? And what is it that makes the Mazda philosophy and design so dynamic?
What Is KODO Design?
"Soul of Motion" or KODO is a philosophy brought to Mazda by Ikuo Maeda. Featured first on the Mazda CX-5 in 2010, the design has carried through to all Mazda models. Behind Mazda's KODO design is Japanese aesthetics, in which the designs avoid complex curves and instead focus on forming flowing lines to create a dynamic look.

KODO
The KODO design delicately blends emotional and dynamic appeal, evoking a dignified, intelligent, and bold stance.
Performance
The Mazda6 unique alloy wheels wear better, look better, and, most importantly, handle better. There are less vibration and better resistance to twisting forces.
Soul Red
Mazda wanted to redefine the colour red. So they engineered a new shade with an elaborate three-step painting process. This red colour is so rich, yet so vibrant; it could only be called Soul Red.
Ultimate Athletic Space
The KODO interior design focuses on linking ergonomics with essential mechanical functions. The result: the ultimate athletic space.
Meticulous Craftsmanship
The look, feel and shape of a KODO cockpit exposes thorough craftsmanship and quality materials that elevate the senses and make all driven adventures comfortable.
HMI
Optimum space and seamless access to technology enable the driver to focus on the road ahead. Thanks to the new Human-Machine Interface design.
Controlled Intuitively
With HMI Commander Switch, navigation, audio, and Bluetooth can be operated naturally using push, tilt, and rotary operations.
Aesthetics and Acoustics
The perforated holes on the leather-trimmed upholstery are spaced to perfection, enhancing the cabin's aesthetics and acoustics.
Ride in First Class
With KODO design, even passengers ride in luxury. Scalloped seats and generous legroom give passengers a memorable first-class experience.
World's First BioPlastics
Bioplastics are carbon-neutral and reduce the use of fossil fuels. Mazda has collaborated with industry-academia-government to successfully develop the world's first bioplastic to be utilized in car production.
Three-Layer Wet Paint
An exclusive three-layer paint system, developed by Mazda, is the first technology to decrease volatile organic compounds and carbon dioxide emissions.
Active Driving Display
Keep your focus on the road with the Active Driving Display. This system projects essential driving information like navigation, speed, cruise control, and safety alerts right within your line of sight.
